Westland Wasp Open Day and Ground School

2nd February 2019

09:30-16:00

Volunteers Group Meeting       16:00-17:00

Historic Helicopters Collection, Chard, Somerset, TA18 8QY, UK

A day to come and see Westland Wasp XT787 and learn more about the Wasp’s significant place in the history of Naval Aviation. The venue is the superb home of Andrew Whitehouse’s Historic Helicopter collection co-located with the Chard Equestrian Centre in Somerset, so you can be certain to see the Westland Whirlwind, Wessex and Sea King whilst you’re there.

The morning presentations on the development and history of the Westland Wasp will be delivered by two display pilots, a former test pilot, Westland's former chief flight test engineer, former aircrew and a maintenance engineer.

The Ground School will cover topics that include Safety in and around helicopters, basic Navigation and Radio Communications, Landing Site selection and Marshalling.

Come along and meet current owners, aircrew and engineers, and also some of the veterans that flew in or maintained these historic aircraft in naval/military service. Guest speakers with expert knowledge and experience with the Wasp at sea.

In addition, the hangar will be open to small group visits during the day and, if the weather is suitable, helicopter experience flights in a Jet Ranger will be available for shared fuel cost only - £30 per person with four pax per flight.

We'll take bookings during the day but it will be first come, first serve.

Finally, there will also be a short annual meeting of the Wasp Volunteers Group at the end of the day.

Do please consider coming along to that too.
